| Granny's Luck is a
wonderful book about magic. Oh, not the kind performed on
a stage or on television, but the kind compatible with
everyday life. As author and educator Kris Kissner tells
us, "Magic is opening your heart to imagine
something for someone other than yourself Kris' grandmother practiced magic, the magic that is "...a manifestation of love", and Granny's Luck is a compilation of her loving practices. From little charms (gris-gris) crocheted or sewn into clothing to prayers to private rituals. Thus, Granny's Luck opens the door for us to create our own magic in our everyday lives. But first, more about Granny. "When her children were, sick, Granny would make a special 'happy pillow' for the sick child. The happy pillow was made in the child's favorite color and they knew it was magic and would make them feel better." Or, Granny told her children to collect the hair from their hair brushes and put it outside in the trees for the birds to use for their nests. "They gave us their beautiful songs, we help hem build their homes." Kris offers suggestions of things to put a little magic in our daily lives. Like "Take the time to do something special for a child: Or "Create a special ceremony or ritual for your self or your family." And you must read the chapter about how to make a gris-gris, the special charm or amulet that is a manifestation of the love in your heart. Kris Kissner is an energetic, optimistic and loving person...and Grannys Luck reflects all of that. She writes, "Tell someone they are a special person to you, let them know they have gifts to spread as they travel through life." Thats magic...and so is Grannys Luck. |
