A House Blessing ![]()
Gris-Gris
When we finally found a new house (by the way, thank you for all those prayers...they really helped), we decided to have a house blessing party. We asked all our friends to bring something special to put in Granny's wonderful brown crockery bowl. We received the most wonderful items:
One of our old neighbors from the old neighborhood brought a violet from a special plant that she said no matter how many time she transplanted it or took a cutting from it, the resulting plant was always strong and happy. She also brought a heart cut from polka dot fabric (I think I remember a Minnie Mouse costume a while back...
Someone brought a tiny blue tile she had treasured for over a decade; someone had given it to her and said it was from the garden bench of Parmahansa Yogananda. I could tell it was a most treasured object.
Some else brought a packet of Indian House Blessing things: cedar chips and herbs.
One family made origami cranes: one of silver (for old friends), one of gold (for new friends) and strung them together with a chrysanthamum and a small picture of their family.
One friend brought a bit of confetti that she had saved from our wedding in 1986.
One new neighbor brought seeds from a tree in their yard.
We also received: lucky pennies, more flowers, herbs, shells, prayers, little notes, a bit of a bird's nest, and more good wishes than I ever could have hoped for.
After the bowl was filled (with love!), I put everything in a cloth bag and put it on the mantel. Eventually, I think I'll put it in the attic, so the blessing will come from the top, down.
